Most cookie policies describe a wall of third-party trackers. Ours is short, because we don’t use them. IQTests sets no advertising or analytics cookies and embeds no tracking pixels. What the site does use is a small amount of your browser’s local storage — a close cousin of cookies — purely to make the test work.
What we store, and why
All of the following live in your browser’s local storage and never leave your device:
iqv_lastv— remembers the last result wording you were shown, so it doesn’t repeat if you take the test again.iqv_shownfam— remembers which “famous minds” comparisons you have already seen, so each result shows fresh ones.iqv_email— stores the email address you entered to unlock your result, so this browser remembers you and doesn’t ask again. It stays on your device.
Other than the email saved in iqv_email, these values don’t identify you. None of them are transmitted from local storage on their own — your email reaches us only when you submit the unlock form, as described below. They exist only to keep the experience smooth.
Data that does leave your browser
When you unlock a result, your submission is sent to our form provider over HTTPS. That single transfer, and what we receive, is described in the privacy policy. Our hosting provider also keeps the standard server logs that every website generates.
Managing what is stored
Because we rely on local storage rather than tracking cookies, there is nothing to “accept” or “reject” for advertising — there is no advertising. To clear what is stored, open your browser settings and clear site data for iq-test.io, or use a private window, which discards local storage when you close it. The test still works; you simply start fresh.
If a future feature ever needed analytics or other cookies, we would update this page first and ask for your choice where the law requires it. The rules for using the site are in our terms of use.
